Linux VPS HostingLinux VPS Hosting- Linux hosting is a type of web hosting with one of the Linux distributions as its operating system. Linux VPS hosting is hosting on a Virtual Private Server, and this article explains what Linux VPS hosting is. Linux VPS hosting! VPS Hosting Properly Understood It used to be that there were three types of hosting: • Shared Hosting—the basic hosting plans, whether for personal use or ecommerce use, that share not only a server, but also resources. This is the least expensive type of web hosting and often works fine, but it means that the greed or spam of one account holder could impact all the other account holders sharing the server. • Virtual Private Server Hosting—the cross between shared hosting and dedicated hosting features hosting on a shared server, but with dedicated resources, and often, the ability to have a dedicated IP (Internet Protocol) address and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate, which makes it possible to use FTP for the site and (with a merchant account and payment gateway) accept credit card and debit card payments. • Dedicated Hosting—a two-pronged system, in which the account has an entire server to itself and server administration and management is either provided by the web hosting company (Managed Dedicated Hosting) or by the account holder. Recently, a new type of hosting has been showing up: Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS). Virtual Dedicated Server hosting is identical to Virtual Private Server hosting, but the name gives a slightly different emphasis, focusing on the fact that this hosting plan has dedicated (if more limited than dedicated hosting) storage, bandwidth, and RAM. If you are looking for Linux VPS hosting, it’s important to know that Linux VDS hosting is the same thing. Finding Linux VPS Hosting What generally happens with VPS hosting is that you start by finding the VPS or VDS listing on the web host’s site, and then you’ll have the opportunity to choose between Linux and Windows, or various different Linux distributions and Windows. The fact is, some web hosts are now offering more than one type of Linux, and this is important to know so you can do some research and make the choice that’s best for you. For example, GoDaddy offers a choice of CentOS and Fedora, while VPSLand offers CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora. You may also be able to choose between several versions of each Linux OS. Linux VPS Hosting Features and Choices When you find Linux VPS Hosting, besides the choice of Linux flavors that you may be offered, there are other choices that you can make. Often, the choices will be grouped into plans, but upgrades may also be available. These are some of the most important choices with the ranges from four sites that were reviewed for this article: • Amount of RAM—it may range from MB (megabytes) to 8 GB (gigabytes) or more. Note that at some webhosts, there is a relatively low ceiling on RAM, even if you pay extra for upgrades. • Disk space/storage—whatever it’s called, this is the amount of server space you get, and it may range from 10 GB to 230 GB. • Bandwidth— may range from 150 GB to 4000 GB per month. • CPU—this is the processing power, but not all hosts offer you a choice. For the one in this exercise that did, the range was 0.56 GHz (gigahertz) to 5.94 GHz. • SSL certificate • IP address—range is 1 to 3 • Type of control panel • 32-bit or 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility • Guaranteed uptime • Support and server monitoring • Firewall • Backup control • Ad credits with companies like Facebook, MySpace, and Google • Ability to host multiple websites Related Article: Cheap Linux Hosting >>
